Recon Saltwater Full Details
Recommended for:
Medium to large saltwater v-hull, flats, center console, Carolina skiffs, Deep-V and general fishing boats. The Recon's dual voltage brushless motor can be wired for 24v producing 90 lbs max thrust or 36v producing 115 lbs max thrust.
24v - 90 lbs thrust: Recommended for boats 18' - 20' length with a fully laden weight up to 3,500 lbs.
36v - 115 lbs thrust: Recommended for boats 20' - 25' length with fully laden weight greater than 6,500 lbs.
NOTE: Recommended voltage/thrust levels are subject to a variety of factors including hull design and shape as well as environmental conditions such as current, swell etc. It is not uncommon for powerful brushless trolling motors such as the Recon to provide enough torque and thrust to hold larger boats in a fixed position (anchor mode) above and beyond stated recommendations above.
For more help determining the right thrust for your boat please contact us or refer to trolling motor thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Lowrance Recon Saltwater is a rugged, powerful motor. Its brushless, dual voltage motor is quieter, more efficient and more powerful than a traditional brushed motor.
We recommend the Recon Saltwater trolling motor for fishermen who are looking for a high-end brushless motor with enough thrust to provide optimal performance on medium to large saltwater fishing vessels. In addition to its full suite of GPS auto-navigation features (Anchor lock etc.), this motor is also designed to network with select Lowrance fish finders via NMEA 2000 connection. This connectivity enables remote operation of the trolling motor directly from the screen as well as additional auto-navigation features.
Perhaps the most unique feature of the Recon is the innovative FreeSteer joystick remote with a full color screen. The joystick can execute diagonal jogs in 8 directions to help move anchor positions freely, in almost any direction, without re-anchoring the boat.

No available upgrades
Mounting Details:
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling 4-6 bolts into the hull for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our and mounting guides.
Note: The Recon has the same bolt hole pattern as the MotorGuide Xi5 but it is important to make sure that the shaft is at least 1.5" from the rub rail when deployed.
If you wish to take the motor on and off your boat, you can also opt for a quick release bracket. The Lowrance Recon would be compatible with the MotorGuide Xi Series Quick Release bracket.
Mount Dimensions:
13.94" length x 8.52" width

Wiring Details:
The Recon Saltwater can be wired directly to the batteries. Install a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation that's easy to remove. To protect your motor from damage, a circuit breaker is highly recommended.
Motor Voltage and Batteries:
The Recon Saltwater motor is a dual voltage motor which can be wired for 24v (90 lbs max thrust) or 36v (115 lbs max thrust) depending on the size/weight of the boat and fishing conditions. Compatible batteries:
- (2-3) 12v deep cycle lead acid or glass mat (agm) batteries wired in series will generate 24v and 36v respectively.
- The motor is also compatible with 24/36v lithium (LiFePO4) batteries.
For more information, see our articles on trolling motor battery selection and battery wiring diagrams

- 36v - 56 amps at maximum speed
Motor Run Time:
Important Note: Calculating run time is very difficult due to the many factors involved. As you likely won't be running your trolling motor 100% of the time, the actual amount of on-the-water time will be longer than continuous run times listed below. Trolling motor run time can vary depending on the boat, operating conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article oncalculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The Recon Saltwater has a pivot-style, manual stow and deploy mechanism activated by a foot lever. Depress the lever and the motor stows/deploys easily.
Motor Steering Method:
The Recon Saltwater is steered via the included FreeSteer joystick remote or an optional wireless foot pedal. The Recon can also connect to compatible Lowrance fishfinders via NMEA 2000 network. This networking feature allows you to control your motor and enable auto-navigation functions directly from the Lowrance display
Shaft Adjustment:
An adjustable, one hand clamp depth collar makes it easy raise and lower the shaft to achieve optimal prop depth.
Motor Speed:
All Recon Saltwater motors are variable speed. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
