Quick Details
If you’re a tournament fisherman, a dedicated bass man, or just a die-hard cable steer guy hunting for a new trolling motor, look no further. The MotorGuide X5 is an impressive workhorse. This is a solid choice for anglers who seek precision steering control for navigating close to shore and moving around tricky obstacles. This motor also sets a new standard for quiet operation due to its use of composite material in the bushings and stow and deploy mechanisms. The innovative Variable Ratio Steering (VRS) will allow you to maneuver into the perfect casting position while quiet operation insures the fish won’t spook.
Digital Power Management will extend your run time and ensure your battery never runs out before you do, while beefy construction will give you peace of mind that your motor will stand the test of time and the rigors of fishing. Also features a 2-blade weedless prop and an LED directional indicator. Variable speed motors available in 55, 70, 80 and 105lb thrust. See below for additional product details.

Recommended for:
Medium to large freshwater bass, deep-V and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 55 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 2500lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weights - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique:
The X5 series is a step-up in performance from the X5. While both models are controlled with a cable foot pedal, the X5 offers improved steering control, quieter operation and sturdier overall construction. Additionally, the X5 is available with thrust options of 55, 70, 80 and 105 lbs.
If you're looking for value-priced cable control, we recommend the MotorGuide X3 series. The X3 series motors are available in 45, 55 and 70 lb thrust levels.

This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The X5 series motors features a new aircraft-grade extruded aluminum mount. When the trolling motor is not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
The MotorGuide X5 series motors are steered by foot pedal. The cable-driven foot pedal is controlled by rocking your foot back and forth to control motor direction while motor speed is controlled by the rotating dial on the side of the foot pedal.
Shaft Adjustment:
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
