Designed for larger saltwater fishing boats, the Riptide Instinct is available in shaft lengths from 60” up to 100” long. It’s equipped with Minn Kota’s insanely powerful QUEST brushless, dual voltage motors that can produce up to 115 lbs. of thrust. In other words, it’s a monster!
But don’t let the size and power of the Instinct spook you; the rugged automatic stow/deploy with power trim leaves all of the heavy lifting up to the motor. Just push a button on the Instinct’s wireless remote and you can automatically stow, deploy or adjust trim height.
New for 2024, Minn Kota’s “Advanced GPS technology” replaces their previous i-Pilot GPS system with a redesigned remote and more GPS navigation features including the legendary “Spot Lock” which keeps your boat right where you want it, regardless of wind or current. Advanced saltwater corrosion resistance protects the entire motor from the elements.

Riptide Instinct - Black Full Details
Recommended for:
Medium to large saltwater or freshwater Center Console, Deep-V, Pontoon, Fish N' Ski, Bay Boats and general fishing boats. The 36v - 112 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats with a fully laden weight up to 12,000lbs and lengths up to 27'. However, fishing conditions, hull design/shape and intended use all have a significant impact on calculating the appropriate amount of thrust for your boat. How It's Unique
The Riptide Instinct QUEST is Minn Kota's only saltwater trolling motor with auto-stow and deploy as well as power trim adjustment. It replaces the Riptide Ulterra lineup which was discontinued in 2023. Although Riptide (saltwater) series motors traditionally come in white only, this Riptide Instinct is has a black color scheme which retains all of the saltwater corrosion resistance technology as well.
The Riptide Instinct represents a giant leap in performance, technology and reliability compared to the Riptide Ulterra. It all starts with Minn Kota's QUEST series brushless dual voltage (24v/36v) motor producing a max thrust of 90 lbs and 115 lbs respectively. The brushless motor is quieter more efficient and offers more torque. Minn Kota replaced the belt-driven auto stow/deploy system in the Riptide Ulterra with a "Worm Drive" system which is more reliable even in the toughest salt water environments. With available shaft lengths up to 100" the Instinct can be mounted on larger boats weighing up to 12,000 lbs

Mounting Details:
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling 6 bolts into the hull for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware.
Due to the weight and torque of the Riptide Instinct QUEST motors deck reinforcement may be required. If reinforcement is necessary, Minn Kota makes a Deck Reinforcement Kit or you can have a qualified fabricator install an alternative.
If you wish to take the motor on and off your boat, you can also opt for a quick release bracket which is a very popular choice. This Riptide Instinct requires the more heavily reinforced RTA-55 Quick Release Bracket

Motor Voltage and Batteries:
The Riptide Instinct QUEST is a dual voltage (24v/36v) motor. Depending on the thrust requirements of your boat and fishing conditions you can wire this motor for 24v or 36v. When wired to 2 x 12v deep cycle batteries (24v), the Instinct will provide up to 90 lbs max thrust. When wired to 3 x 12v deep cycle batteries, the Instinct will provide up to 115 lbs max thrust. Motor Wiring Details:
The Riptide Instinct can be wired directly to the batteries or it can be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation. If using a quick release bracket, a plug and receptacle like the Minn Kota MKR-28 will allow you to plug and unplug the motor for easy removal and re-mounting.
To protect your motor from control board damage installing a 60amp circuit breaker is highly recommended.
Shielded, marine grade wiring should be used to connect the motor to the power source (aka batteries!). To determine the appropriate gauge wiring download this circuit breaker and wiring table.
If you are using lead acid or AGM batteries, they must be wired "in series" to create the proper voltage for this motor. For instructions on how to properly wire 12v batteries in series, take a look at our 24v-36v trolling motor wiring diagram.
Power Lead Length:
Two 5' power leads (red and black) ending in terminal rings (aka lugs). Minn Kota motors do not come from the factory with trolling motor power plugs. A new power plug can be crimped or heat shrunk onto the power leads; make sure to have a matching receptacle installed in the hull. If you are replacing an existing motor that has a plug already installed, you can transfer it to the new motor's power leads.
NOTE: Although most power plugs and receptacles are universally compatible regardless of voltage, make sure that they are rated at 60amps or more. Minn Kota and Marinco offer high-quality, reliable plug and receptacle sets.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: Calculating run time is very difficult due to the many factors involved. As you likely won't be running your trolling motor 100% of the time, the actual amount of on-the-water time will be longer than continuous motor run times listed below. Trolling motor run time can vary depending on the boat, operating conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Stow and Deploy Method:
The Riptide Instinct is an auto-stow and deploy motor. With just the push of a button on the wireless remote, the foot pedal (or even your phone!) you can remotely raise and lower the motor.
Motor Steering Method:
The motor is steered via the included Advanced GPS remote control and/or multi-function foot pedal. The Instinct can also connect (aka network) to compatible Humminbird fishfinders via an ethernet connection. This networking feature is part of Minn Kota's "One Boat Network" and allows you to control your motor directly from the Humminbird and tap in to additional auto-navigation and mapping features.
