Riptide Maxxum 80 Bowguard Full Details
Recommended for:
Medium to large saltwater v-hull, flats, center-console and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 80 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 4,000lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weights - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Riptide Maxxum line is a step-up from the Riptide Edge trolling motor. Featuring a more powerful motor (up to 80 lbs) and an optional BowGuard mount (Riptide Maxxum 80 only) with a beefy spring-protected shaft, the Riptide Maxxum is built to stand the test of time. The motor is also available with a latch & door mount for easy motor removal.
The Minn Kota Riptide Fortrex is a step-up from the Riptide Maxxum as it features a super heavy-duty aluminum mono arm along with a stainless steel, nitrogen charged gas spring that makes stowing and deploying the motor similar to opening up the tailgate on an SUV. Consider the Riptide Fortrex if you want the most heavy-duty trolling motor made.

To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 3.6 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 1.8 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Riptide Maxxum 80 BowGuard motors feature the BowGuard 360 mount. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.

The Riptide Maxxum models are steered by hand. The unique Tilt Twist Tiller handle tilts up to make steering easier and more convenient. Motor speed is controlled by rotating the hand lever.
