Quick Details
Over the last decade, the Minn Kota Ulterra has been the pinnacle of trolling motor technology. Whether you’ve seen the videos or out on the water, the Ulterra’s auto stow and deploy with power trim almost seems too good to be true! Perhaps you prefer to fish alone, have trouble stowing a heavy trolling motor or simply want the best of the best. Whatever the case may be, the Ulterra continues to provide effortless performance for anglers who just want to worry about one thing, catching more fish.
Now equipped with Minn Kota’s most advanced and powerful QUEST Series dual 24v/36v brushless motor producing 90-115 lbs of max thrust and a completely redesigned auto-stow and deploy technology, the new Ulterra QUEST has raised the bar yet again.
Make no mistake, the Ulterra QUEST is no one trick pony. It features Minn Kota's "Advanced GPS" technology (previously i-Pilot/i-Pilot Link) coupled with a redesigned wireless remote offers more auto-navigation features such as "Drift Mode" and "Dodge”. Tap into Minn Kota's One Boat Network to control your motor, enable GPS auto-navigation, mapping features and imaging from select Humminbird fish finders or the updated smartphone app.
Humminbird’s fully integrated Dual Spectrum CHIRP provides even more clarity, accuracy and detail than ever before. The Ulterra QUEST is also available with integrated MEGA Side and Down Imaging.

Ulterra QUEST Full Details
Recommended for:
Medium to large freshwater Center Console, Deep-V, Pontoon, Fish N' Ski, Bay Boats and general fishing boats.
- When wired for 24v, you'll have 90 lbs of max thrust on tap which provides enough power for boats weighing up to 4,500 lbs.
- When wired for 36v, you'll have 115 lbs of max thrust which provides enough power for boats weighing up to 10,000 lbs.
However, fishing conditions, hull design/shape and intended use all have a significant impact on calculating the appropriate amount of thrust for your boat. For more help determining the right thrust for your boat please refer to our Trolling Motor Thrust Guide.
How It's Unique
The Ulterra QUEST is a more advanced and powerful version of the "brushed" (aka "permanent magnet") Ulterra motors.
The most significant difference between the Ulterra and the Ulterra QUEST is the actual motor itself. The Ulterra QUEST has a brushless "dual voltage" motor. Dual voltage motors offer you a choice between wiring the motor for 24v producing 90 lbs max thrust OR 36v producing 115 lbs. of max thrust.
Brushless motors such as the QUEST series motors are quieter, more efficient and more powerful than traditional permanent magnet motors in the standard Ulterra. Brushless motors also produce less friction and heat which typically prolong the lifespan of the motor.
Ulterra QUEST also has Minn Kota's latest "worm drive" auto-stow and deploy mechanism which is more powerful, smoother and more reliable than the belt drive system in the standard Ulterra

The Ulterra QUEST is available in 45", 60" and 72" shaft lengths. For help selecting the appropriate shaft length for your boat, please see our Shaft Length Selection Guide.

Available Upgrades:
Mounting Details:
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling 6 bolts into the hull for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware.
Due to the weight and torque of the Ulterra QUEST motors, deck reinforcement may be required. If reinforcement is necessary, Minn Kota makes a Deck Reinforcement Kit or you can have a qualified fabricator install an alternative.
If you wish to take the motor on and off your boat, you can also opt for a quick release bracket which is a very popular choice. This Ulterra QUEST requires the more heavily reinforced MKA-56 Quick Release Bracket
Motor Mount Dimensions:
- Full Motor Mount: 26 11/16" length x 10 9/16" width
- Extrusion (Mounting Plate): 24 9/16" length x 9 1/2" width
Motor Voltage and Batteries:
The Ulterra QUEST is a dual voltage (24v/36v) motor. Depending on the thrust requirements of your boat and fishing conditions you can wire this motor for 24v or 36v. When wired to 2 x 12v deep cycle batteries (24v), the The Ulterra QUEST will provide up to 90 lbs max thrust. When wired to 3 x 12v deep cycle batteries, this motor will provide up to 115 lbs max thrust. For more information on the proper batteries to purchase for your trolling motor, see our Trolling Motor Battery Selection Guide.
Motor Wiring Details:
The Ulterra QUEST can be wired directly to the batteries or it can be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation. If using a quick release bracket, a plug and receptacle like the Minn Kota MKR-28 will allow you to plug and unplug the motor for easy removal and re-mounting.
To protect your motor from control board damage installing a 60amp circuit breaker is highly recommended.
Shielded, marine grade wiring should be used to connect the motor to the power source (aka batteries!). To determine the appropriate gauge wiring download this circuit breaker and wiring table.
If you are using lead acid or AGM batteries, they must be wired "in series" to create the proper voltage for this motor. For instructions on how to properly wire 12v batteries in series, take a look at our 24v-36v trolling motor wiring diagram.
Power Lead Length:
Two 5' power leads (red and black) ending in terminal rings (aka lugs). Minn Kota motors do not come from the factory with trolling motor power plugs. A new power plug can be crimped or heat shrunk onto the power leads; make sure to have a matching receptacle installed in the hull. If you are replacing an existing motor that has a plug already installed, you can transfer it to the new motor's power leads.
NOTE: Although most power plugs and receptacles are universally compatible regardless of voltage, make sure that they are rated at 60amps or more. Minn Kota and Marinco offer high-quality, reliable plug and receptacle sets.
Pedal Cord Length:
18' Cord

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: Calculating run time is very difficult due to the many factors involved. As you likely won't be running your trolling motor 100% of the time, the actual amount of on-the-water time will be longer than continuous motor run times listed below. Trolling motor run time can vary depending on the boat, operating conditions (wind, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated batteries. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The Ulterra QUEST is an auto-stow and deploy motor. With just the push of a button on the wireless remote, the foot pedal (or even your phone!) you can remotely raise and lower the motor. The power trim feature also allows you to adjust the prop height to optimal depth.
Motor Steering Method:
The motor is steered via the included Advanced GPS remote control and/or multi-function foot pedal. The Ulterra QUEST can also connect (aka network) to compatible Humminbird fishfinders via an ethernet connection. This networking feature is part of Minn Kota's "One Boat Network" and allows you to control your motor directly from the Humminbird and tap in to additional auto-navigation and mapping features.
Download Minn Kota's One Boat Network smartphone app to control your motor directly from your phone and sync up with your Humminbird for mapping and numerous additional auto-navigation features.
