Maxxum 80 - Hand Control Full Details
Recommended for:
Medium to large freshwater v-hull, bass, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 25'. The 80 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 4,000lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weights - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique:
Maxxum trolling motors are a step up from the Minn Kota Edge as they offer larger thrust levels (up to 80 lbs), a beefy spring-protected shaft housing, an illuminated directional indicator, and select models offer a variable speed motor. This motor is built to last and has some helpful bells and whistles.
The Minn Kota Fortrex is a step-up from the Maxxum motor as it features a super heavy-duty aluminum mono arm, stow and deploy assist, removable BowGuard 360 mount, optional built-in transducer and thrust up to 112 lbs. If you want the most sturdy motor built or would like to integrate your fishfinder with your motor, consider the Minn Kota Fortrex.

Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 3.5 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 1.8 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Maxxum motors feature the Bowguard 360 mount. When the trolling motor is not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
This Maxxum model is steered by hand. The unique Tilt Twist Tiller handle tilts up to make steering easier and more convenient. Motor speed is controlled by rotating the hand lever.
